Mama Bird Diaries

Here's a taste of one of this mother's post from her popular blog about her adventures as a mother...

"You know, 9 months is a really long time to come up with a baby name. But apparently, not long enough for me. Because when my daughter was about a month-old, I looked down at that sweet, scrunched up face and thought, "This baby is absolutely, definitely not a Presley. "Oh man. We gave our kid the wrong name. But I said nothing. I just figured I would get used to it. Presley just needed to grow into her name. Or I needed to grow into it. Or something..."

Because I Said So

This blog is written by a single mother of 6 children! Here she writes about the dreaded trip to the grocery store with all 6 of her kids...quite entertaining!

"You haven't lived until you've gone grocery shopping with six kids in tow. I would rather swim, covered in bait, through the English Channel, be a contestant on Fear Factor when they're having pig brains for lunch, or do fourth grade math than to take my six kids to the grocery store. Because I absolutely detest grocery shopping, I tend to put it off as long as possible. There comes a time, however, when you're peering into your fridge and thinking, 'Hmmm, what can I make with ketchup, Italian dressing, and half an onion,' that you decide you cannot avoid going to the grocery store any longer. Before beginning this most treacherous mission, I gather all the kids together and give them "The Lecture."

The Daily Fire Drill

This humorous blog is cleverly written by a mother of three children who is worried about what her children do at other's houses after seeing what they can do to her own!

"Me: Why is there a footprint on my oven?

Silence from the children.

Me (clearly in need of a more direct line of questioning): Who put their foot on my oven?

Ben: I did it.

Me: How exactly does this happen?

Ben: I don't know. It was actually really hard to do.

If this can happen in my house, then what happens when they go to other people's houses?  Before they get out of the car for a play date, I already have a list of guidelines.  Please be nice, remember to flush and wash, don't ask for a snack, use your manners, take your shoes off, be nice to the dog, I know so and so is mean but you're pretty nasty too most of the time, etc.

Now I have to say, "And don't put your feet on Mrs. X's oven?" If there's boot camp for dogs and adults, then why isn't there one for kids?  Just one week. All vegetables and walking uphill through the snow.  Then when I drop them off at someone's house I just say, "Be good or you're going back to boot camp." Love it. Who's in?"
