New Years Resolutions for Kids!

New Year's Resolutions for Kids!
January is the perfect time of year for everyone to reflect on the past year and see how they can do better, no matter their age! Does your child lack motivation to do their chores, homework, or get out and exercise? Make this New Year one for them to work on each of those areas and be excited about doing it!
Is it important for children to set goals?
Yes! Goal setting is not limited to adults. Children can start early on in life to be able to learn how to become lifelong goal makers and achievers! Ask your child a few important questions while making his new year's resolution list...
~ What would you like to achieve?
~ How will you get there?
~ When do you want to have it accomplished?
Helping him through these questions will give him an adavantage later on in life when tyring to set and acheive goals. Help him make small and specific goals to accomplish each day and allow him to check his list off. Doing so will help him realize that he can achieve his goals! A very important part of goal setting is working towards a reward. This will help motivate him and keep him focused. The goals may vary according to your child's age. Each year you can sit down with him and create a new list of goals to work on whether they are long term or short term.
Goals Could Include:
1. Make bed every morning
2. Brush teeth twice a day
3. Finish homework
4. Complete all chores without being asked
5. Be kind to siblings
6. Be physically active at least 30 minutes a day
7. Do an act of service for someone
8. Eat 1 fruit and 1 vegetable each day
9. Get an A on the next math test
10. Save money for a new bike
The most crucial step of goal setting is a way to track progress! Below is an example of a New Year's Resolution list for your children. We also have a template for you to create your own checklist to fit your child's wants and needs!

Template Checklist...

All you have to do is right click on the checklist you wish to use, copy it into a word document and it's all yours! You can print it off, laminate it, and stick it on the fridge to use over and over again! Make 2010 the year to help your child develop and realize his potential by writing down and acheiving his goals!
