Pre-schoolers Play, Move, & Sing With Sukey’s Circle

Posted by Sheena

Let me start off by saying that it is not my intention to regularly post product reviews here, especially products produced by big brands that are commercially known. But I have got to share this wonderful product that fell into my lap.

I had received an invitation to a puppet show in NYC and since we live in Chicago, I was unable to attend. Receiving invites to events in NYC is nothing rare. I usually just brush them off. Sometimes I’ll ask to be contacted if that same event comes to Chicago. Well, that’s what I did this time around. The PR professional and I got to talking about this wonderful product that I’d like to tell you about.

Sukey’s Circle. Remember it.

At first, I didn’t know if Jayden would be interested, so before I requested a review copy, I requested links to some of Sukey’s videos online. To my surprise, Jayden displayed a strong interest in Sukey Molloy and her Sunshine Family.

Within a few days, a review copy of Sukey’s Circle arrived to provide our toddler with some quality entertainment. See, before receiving this DVD, we couldn’t find anything that held his attention. So watching him sit down in his chair interacting with Sukey Molloy almost made me faint. I’d finally be able to sneak in some work during the day while he watched Sukey’s Circle. He’s since fallen in love with Little Einsteins – double score, but back to Sukey.

The Sukey’s Circle DVD includes both episodes These Are My Eyes and Tick Tock. Sukey Molloy is naturally entertaining. I love that she doesn’t try too hard. She combines, music, dance, primary colors, shapes and her calm grace to provide entertainment to pre-schoolers that does not overly stimulate. The DVD runs for 30 minutes. I often find myself putting it on repeat a few times because Jayden can’t get enough of “Circo”, Sunny, and Tick Tock.

Sukey’s Circle has won the 2009 Nappa Award and the 2010 Mom’s Choice Award. Sukey’s Circle defintely gets my seal of approval. I look forward to Sukey releasing future DVDs. Truth be told, I am begging for Sukey to release more DVDs. Hopefully, I’ll be able to give away a copy of Sukey’s Circle on Sophistishe soon. I’ll report back if I do. Until then, here’s a clip of Jayden enjoying Sukey’s Circle for the first time! See how engaged he is? This video was recorded two months ago, he’s since started pointing to his body parts as Sukey refers to them. He also sings and dances to the songs.

Does your child have any favorite entertainers?

My daughters do, in fact, have a favorite entertainer. As much as I want to lie and say it’s The Wiggles, or The Imagination movers….really….they love Lady Gaga.

And I’m okay with it. They wander around the house singing paparazzi and I couldn’t be more happy it’s not a Barney song :) Plus their dress-up has been THAT much more interesting since they’ve seen some (pre-screened and approved) videos!

@Jen, it’s funny that you mentioned Lady Gaga because I was actually going to end this post with saying, “Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber are acceptable answers.” :)

Whew! Because I love music so much … my problem is I’m not willing to sacrifice what *I* want to listen to in order to give the kids age-appropriate music. So I choose to let them listen to what I do. They can rap, they know R&B, they don’t know smooth jazz cause that stinks, but pop, rock…I want them to love music the way I do. Justin Beber, tho? I had no respect for him until I saw him on Saturday Night Live with Tina Fey…I almost PEED myself laughing. SO funny!

Elizabeth Mitchell is so wonderful. We loved her concert and her music is just so sweet, how can anyone not want to sing along! Have you heard of her Sheena?

My little girl loves to watch PBS. She loves the "big comfy couch" and "blues clues" which we have on dvd/vhs. I am sure she'd LOVE this…. thanks for making me aware of it!
