Cosco Children's Products
Cosco - the name is short for the "Columbus Specialty Company" - has undergone quite a transformation since its founding in 1935. Over the years it went from being a small outfit that sold only matchboxes made of metal (talk about a specialty company!) to a mid-sized operation selling mostly containers for the kitchen, like breadboxes, to what it is today: a large company that not only makes furniture for the home and office, but that is also a leader in children's products.
Ever since Cosco made its first metallic high chair in the late 1940's, it's been an admired manufacturer of goods for babies and young children. And the number of products they've developed since then is outstanding. Cosco was the first company ever to make a child's seat for airplanes. Called the Safe-T-Seat, this restraint system has made countless flights safer for infants and toddlers. For instance, the company has sold many models of stepstools for toddlers since its first such stool debuted in 1974. That stool, called the Two-Step stool, set the standards of durability and safety that all subsequent Cosco stools would live up to. Of course, given that the company had been the world's largest stepstool company for adults since the early 1960's, its leadership in the child stepstool market probably didn't come as a surprise to too many people.
Dorel, another leading producer of goods for young children, acquired Cosco in 1988. The partnership has flourished since then, and an abbreviated list of the products that Cosco makes today would include strollers, baby beds, car seats, high chairs, diaper pails and swings. Those strollers deserve special attention. Sleek and stylish, they are as well-made and affordable as they are colorful and fun to use. Most come with full umbrellas and with car seat adapters so you can attach your child's car seat to the stroller. (And remember that a child should not ride in a stroller without a car seat unless he or she can sit up without support.) Moreover, these strollers are easy to control, feature high-quality braking systems, and provide soft, comfortable fabric seats on which your child can relax, and even take a nap if the mood strikes him or her. These are hearty strollers as well. Most accommodate children who weigh up to forty pounds, and some can transport a child weighing up to fifty pounds.
