Dorel Baby Products
There are plenty of baby product manufacturers out there, but none is as large, or has as much experience, or is as trusted by parents the world over as Dorel. Dorel is a baby product behemoth that puts painstaking attention and care into each of the many items it releases. Comprised of a number of product lines, including such blue-chip names as Disney and Eddie Bauer, Dorel continues to innovate, continues to maintain the most rigorous safety standards possible, and continues to delight young children and please their parents every day.
If you've ever bought a baby product from Safety 1st, Maxi-Cosi, Quinny or Cosco, or if you live in Europe and you've ever bought a baby product bearing the name Mon Bebe, Babideal, Bebe Confort or Baby Relax, then you've bought a Dorel product. All these beloved names within the baby industry are part of Dorel. (IGC in Australia is also mostly owned by Dorel.) Now, if you're starting to believe by this point that Dorel must be the oldest baby-item manufacturer in the world, you'll be surprised to learn that Dorel Industries as we know them today was only formed in 1987. The Dorel name goes back a little further, however. A Canadian juvenile-product manufacturer called Dorel Company Limited started creating high-quality baby goods in 1962. This version of Dorel began by making mattresses for babies, and then expanded its product line to include strollers, infant car seats and cribs. But it was only in 1987 when that company merged with the well-respected furniture company Ridgewood Industries, which had been founded in 1969, and then went public with its stock (also in 1987) that Dorel are we know it today came into existence. Dorel really began to take off in the United Kingdom and throughout Europe that year. From there, Dorel began a strategic program of acquiring other trusted baby-product companies. Probably the acquisition that had the most significant effect on Dorel, however, was its 1988 acquisition of Cosco, Inc. Cosco, a company headquartered in Columbus, Indiana, makes furniture and other accessories for young children. The Cosco merger allowed Dorel to greatly diversify its product line, and made it a leader in baby products in North America as well as in Europe. Today, Dorel continues to release products that rank among the safest, most reliable and most attractive in the juvenile product industry, including high chairs, stroller, play yards, cribs and step stools for tiny feet.
