Maclaren Tough and Aerodynamic Baby Strollers
Maclaren was founded by Owen Maclaren in England in 1965. The company launched with a single product that proved influential, even revolutionary: the B-01 Baby Buggy. Owen Maclaren actually designed and created this stroller himself, inside the horse stables of his large home. Maclaren had served as a test pilot and had also worked in the aeronautical industry as a designer, and he was able to draw on this experience and knowledge to make the B-01 as aerodynamic and as tough as possible. (And no doubt the aeronautical industry influenced the name of the B-01!) The B-01 was a true sensation when it was first introduced to the public. It was the first stroller to be so lightweight, thanks to its tubular aluminum frame, while also being safe, strong and durable at the same time. It was also rare at that time for people to be able to fold a stroller with just one hand, as they could do with the B-01. In addition, the B-01 was the first stroller to feature a three-dimensional folding layout, and when it was folded up it took up much less space than any stroller that had preceded it. On top of all that, the B-01 proved that a baby stroller could not only work really well, but also look stunning. It featured a series of eye-catching blue and white stripes. Even today, when baby stroller designers seek to make their strollers as visually arresting as possible, they're calling up the spirit of the B-01.
