What Are Umbrella Strollers? What Are Umbrella Strollers?

Umbrella strollers are just what their names suggest they are: baby strollers that come with built-in umbrellas to shield your baby from the rain or from excessive sunlight. Sometimes you can buy an umbrella as an accessory to a baby stroller, but if you know you're going to be taking your child out often, in all kinds of weather, it might be more convenient to choose a stroller that comes with an umbrella already attached.

There are several things to keep in mind when going shopping for umbrella strollers. First, just because a baby stroller comes equipped with an umbrella doesn't mean that stroller should weigh any more than a stroller without such a feature. In fact, there are plenty of umbrella strollers available weighing less than twenty-five pounds. Also, the attached umbrella shouldn't make the process of folding the umbrella for storage any more difficult. (These strollers should be able to fit in the trunk of your car, by the way.) To the contrary, folding and unfolding the stroller should still take merely a matter of seconds.

Some umbrella folders come with less storage space, but if you look around you should have no trouble finding such a stroller with plenty of room to store your baby supplies and other belongings. And if these strollers come with reclining seats, they can create an especially comfortable ride for your child. Sometimes you can even lay a stroller seat completely flat for a baby who can't sit upright yet.

Also, these umbrellas often extend to different lengths. That is, you can pull the umbrella just as far out as you have to keep the sunlight out of your baby's face, and no farther. On the other hand, if it's raining hard, you can pull the umbrella out so far that even the feet won't get wet. And some umbrellas come with mesh attachments that will cover your infant's entire body, yet still allow him or her to peek out at the world. This kind of coverage works well at times, for example, when there are a lot of mosquitoes out.

Finally, and not least, you'll want to look at a variety of umbrellas to find one with a shape, color and style you find attractive. You'll be spending a good deal of time walking behind that stroller in the coming months, so why not go for an umbrella you find visually appealing?
